Drugs and Government

Drug companies spend nearly twice as much on marketing and promotion as on research and development, and this includes almost $5 billion a year in direct-to-consumer advertising.

Big Pharma spends nearly $250 million a year on lobbying expenses, is a top campaign contributor, and has notoriously close and compromising financial ties to the FDA, the agency tasked with monitoring drug approvals and safety. This industry is also in cahoots with government-funded agencies that promote public health campaigns that aggressively "educate" us on the importance of screenings and medication compliance – efforts that have created millions of new customers for their products.
